Two people have been fired after leaving a 4-year-old boy with special needs on a school bus for most of the school day, according to the Associated Press.
The boy was picked up at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday and the bus went to his school. It is unclear why he did not get off, according to The Office of the State Superintendent of Education, which is responsible for transporting special-needs students in the city.
The bus driver and an attendant returned the bus to the terminal without noticing the child, who had apparently fallen asleep.
The student was found in his booster seat more than six hours later when the driver and attendant went to inspect the vehicle before going on their afternoon route. The boy was released to his mother.
