Passengers at Dulles International Airport this holiday weekend may have an easier time finding healthy food options than travelers at BWI or Reagan National.
More than 80 percent of restaurants at Dulles offer at least one high fiber, low fat, cholesterol-free entree, according to a study from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which surveyed 18 of the busiest airports in the country.
Dulles ranked 6th, while BWI was 10th and Reagan National was 11th.
Across the country, there has been a rise in healthy options in airports across the country, says Susan Levin, director of nutritional education for the organization.
"Just like restaurants on the outside of airports are catering to people who are thinking about how diet relates to their health, airports are no different," she says.
Levin recommends finding restaurants that allow custom orders, so passengers can request healthy alternatives.
