Online voter registration is a new feature of the registration system in Maryland for 2012.

The deadline to register to vote in Maryland is tomorrow, Oct. 16, and there are several ways for Maryland residents to register to vote, including — for the first time — online.

Online voter registration closes at 9 p.m. Tuesday and can be accessed through the online voter registration system on the Maryland Board of Elections website

Marylanders can also register the old fashioned way in person at some state offices, including the local board of elections and the Motor Vehicle Administration. Residents are required to provide a Maryland drivers license number, a motor vehicle administration ID card number or the last four digits of a social security number.

Residents without any of those forms of ID can still register but have to affirm this fact under penalty of perjury. In Montgomery County, the Board of Elections office in Gaithersburg will stay open until 9 p.m. Tuesday to accommodate last minute voter registrations. The Prince George's County Board of Elections office in Upper Marlboro closes Tuesday at 9 p.m.
