Taxpayers in Prince George's County will not have to foot the bill for damage to the county administration building caused by Tropical Storm Lee in 2011, the Washington Examiner reports. The $8 million in repairs will be covered by FEMA and the county's insurance policy.
Heavy rainfall from the tropical storm in September 2011 caused the first floor of the county administration building to become waterlogged, causing more than $1 million in damage to the structure.
Significant costs were also incurred from displaced staff and from damage to official documents that had to be restored. The recovery efforts lasted through the spring.
The money from FEMA and insurance not only saves taxpayers, it will also allow funding for other programs to also stay intact.
