Metro has altered 30 of its bus routes to improve on-time performance and reduce crowding at bus stations on some of the more heavily traveled lines. The changes went into effect Sept. 30.

Among the adjustments taking place:

  • The 16F and 16Y routes on Columbia Pike are being converted to limited stop MetroExtra Service.
  • The 28x route on Leesburg Pike will now have limited-stop blue Metroextra buses.
  • There will be schedule changes on the MetroExtra J4 College-Park Bethesda route, the y5, y7, y8 , and y9 routes on Georgia Avenue, Maryland and on REX, the Richman Highway Express Line.

The full list of the changes is available on WMATA's website. The changes are part of the "better bus" initiative which the transit agency says will improve service for about one-third of its bus ridership.
