: Morning Edition 
The D.C. Council is back to work today after a two-month break, and among the first bills to be considered is one addressing penalties for reckless driving that some think are too strict.
Some D.C. residents have lost their licenses for what they consider simple speeding infractions committed in other states, especially Virginia. Some highways in Virginia have 70 mph speed limits, but the state considers driving over 80 mph reckless driving.
Motorists from Virginia cited for reckless driving get a fine and points on their license, but the District treats reckless driving as as a serious offense that triggers automatic revocation of the driver's license.
The bill being considered at today's legislative session would bring the District's penalties for reckless driving in line with other jurisdictions.
