Big changes are in the works for Arlington's Crystal City neighborhood.
The Arlington County Board has approved a developer's plan to demolish a block-long vacant and outdated office building at 1900 Crystal Drive between South 18th and 20th streets and replace it with a 24-story office building complete with ground floor retail space.
When finished, it will be the tallest building in Crystal City, complete with more than 730 underground parking spaces.
The plan from real estate developer Vornado will now be reviewed by a citizens' review council before being adopted by the County Manager. The project is the first major redevelopment under the Crystal City Sector Plan, a comprehensive guide for the redevelopment of the neighborhood during the next several years.
