: Morning Edition 
A former Prince George's County police officer has been sentenced in a cigarette smuggling scheme, according to the Associated Press.
Former officer Chong Chin Kim conspired with several other people to transport and distribute untaxed cigarettes in Maryland, Virginia, and elsewhere, according to his plea agreement.
The 44-year-old Kim and another police officer were paid to protect the goods. The conspirators together bought contraband cigarettes at least 33 times from an undercover agent, a total of 17 million cigarettes.
Kim was sentenced Thursday to spend five years and one day in prison, and ordered to forfeit approximately $2.7 million dollars.
