D.C. is launching a smart phone application to combat sexual violence on college campuses.
The new "U ASK" mobile app and website quickly connects college students to immediate medical help and law enforcement, a link to 24-hour hotlines and community and college support groups.
All eight D.C.-based universities have signed on, as well as the city's law enforcement agencies and D.C.'s office of victim services. The goal is to increase student reporting of sexual assault and dating violence. Fewer than 5 percent of college women who are victims report it to police, according to advocates.
Those same advocates hope by putting all of the resources in one easily, accessible place, it will be easier for victims to come forward and also get the right support.
