Five men have been sentenced for their involvement in an infamous shooting that rattled the District two years ago, according to the U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Columbia.
Back in the spring of 2010, a week long spate of tit-for-tat shootings over a stolen bracelet culminated in an AK-47 powered drive-by on Alabama Avenue SE. It was one of the worst acts of violence in D.C. in decades, and it left four dead and eight others wounded.
The five men at the center of it all were sentenced Tuesday to either life in prison or decades behind bars. The emotional sentencing hearing lasted the entire day.
Judge Ronna Beck sentenced three of the defendants to life in prison, one to 54 years, and another to 30 years. More than a dozen family members of the five young people killed in the violence spoke, many of them urging the maximum sentence for the group.
