Prince George's County Police are investigating the murder of an 18-year-old high school student that happened this morning on Central Avenue in Capitol Heights.
The victim, who police have identified as Marckel Norman Ross, a junior at Central High School, was found shot in the chest this morning shortly before 7 a.m. He was on his way to school, NBC Washington reports.
Ross' family describes him as a pleasant young man and a promising track athlete.
"I don't understand why this happened to him," says Marcell Thompson. "I'm looking at it wishing that it could have been me. If you asked anybody, all he did was smile all day."
Detectives were canvassing the neighborhood. A police spokeswoman said officer knew of no motive.
