Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration hopes a graphic new video will help reduce distracted driving, especially among teens, according to the Associated Press.
The video is titled "Get the Message" and it shows with vivid realism how a text message can turn into a terrible accident, in this case involving a carload of teenagers.
The video will be used in all of the state's drivers' education programs. The images in the video are shocking for a reason, an MVA spokesperson tells the AP.
Between 2007 and 2011, 152,000 people were injured and more than 1,000 killed in Maryland in distracted driving accidents. The MVA and its partner in the video, the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, hope "get the message" will get results.
