Some students at the University of Maryland College Park are demanding Chick-fil-A close its campus location, according to the Associated Press.
Those students started an online petition over the weekend to get the campus-based Chick-fil-A location shut down in response to comments about same-sex marriage by company president Dan Cathy.
The petition refers to Chick-Fil-A as a "bigoted and hateful organization" and claims that allowing the operation to continue on campus violates the sprit of equality the university claims to champion, AP reports. The students also demand officials at the university replace the fast food vendor, located in the Stamp Student Union building, with a more accepting and maybe even healthier dining option.
Protests against the restaurant began last month when Cathy told a religious publication that the company backed "the biblical definition of a family."
