The Virginia Board of Elections has identified about 10,000 dead people on the state's list of registered voters, according to the Associated Press.
The deceased voters were identified by comparing voter rolls with the Social Security Administration's master death file obtained from the National Technical Information Service, elections officials say.
Names will be removed from the voter rolls by local general registrars. The board says it's continuing to analyze records to identify additional potential matches.
