The main July Fourth celebration in the region, A Capital Fourth on the National Mall, is going to proceed as scheduled, but residents of Montgomery County will have to look across the border if they want to see fireworks this evening.

The displays in Germantown. Kensington, Rockville and Gaithersburg have been called off.

Police and firefighters that would have to be present at the events are needed elsewhere as thousands remain without power, and several roads are still blocked by debris, according to County Executive Isiah Leggett.

In particular, the site of the Kensington display, Einstein High School, is full of downed trees and limbs that constitute a fire hazard.
