Police have made an arrest in the murder of a tourist in Petworth in late April, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department. Michael Davis, the brother of NFL players Vernon and Vontae Davis, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case of Gary Dederichs May 9.

Dederichs, a tourist who was visiting Washington, was found unconscious on the 800 block of Emerson Street NW April 24. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis, 19, was already in police custody after being arrested in connection with two other assaults last week. In one of those assualts, Davis allegedly hit a 19-year-old woman on the head with a hammer. A short time later, police discovered the suspect with a backpack that contained a hammer.

At the time, MPD Chief Cathy Lanier said they could definitively tie Davis to the murder of Dederichs or several other similar attacks in the area.
