Advocates for affordable housing in the District will demonstrate this evening to call on the D..C Council to take action.
The Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development is asking city leaders to restore funding to affordable housing programs. Many low-income families are paying too much for their housing, or may be unable to stay in the District because of the high cost, according to Bob Pohlman, the group's executive director. They may also face the risk of homelessness, he adds.
A "Housing for All" rally is set for 6 p.m. at the Wilson Building. Activists say the District government has to recognize the dire need for housing that serves the city's low- and moderate-income residents.
They're calling for immediate steps to restore investments in the housing programs that provide what they call "safe, quality and affordable homes for the residents."
