Newt Gingrich Campaigns In Maryland

GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is scheduled to make campaign stop in northwestern Maryland ahead of Tuesday's primary, according to the Associated Press.

Gingrich is scheduled to hold a rally at the Frederick Motor Company later this morning, then speak at Hood College in the afternoon. Campaign aides say the stop at Hood, the first appearance there for a presidential candidate in more than a decade, was requested by the Gingrich campaign.

Recent polling shows just 12 percent of likely Maryland Republican voters supporting the former U.S. House speaker. Gingrich will also be the first candidate in this year's primary to visit Frederick County. 

Mitt Romney's campaign had scheduled a mid-March rally at the state fairgrounds, but canceled just a few days later.

Gingrich, whose campaign laid off one-third of its staff last week to save money, has conceded that Mitt Romney will most likely be the Republican nominee.
