An arrest warrant has been issued for a man U.S. Park Police believe was involved in gunfire near the White House this weekend, according to the Associated Press. The warrant charges 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega with carrying a dangerous weapon, in connection with the incident, which happened late Friday.
Shortly after shots were heard around 16th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW, investigators found an abandoned vehicle near the Roosevelt Bridge, authorities say. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle's driver get out and run across the bridge toward Arlington. Soon after, agents recovered an assault rifle, but no one was arrested.
Other items recovered from the vehicle led police to Ortega, who is believed to be living in the Washington area with ties to Idaho, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Park Police.
Authorities say the White House does not appear to have been the focus of the shooting, and only one vehicle was involved -- not two, as was initially reported.
Anyone with information about Ortega's whereabouts is urged to contact local police.
