David Rubenstein, a D.C.-based philanthropist, has given $10 million to the White House Historical Association for a White House history center.
A Washington-based philanthropist is donating $10 million to set up a research and education center focused on White House history.
The center, a gift from David Rubenstein, will be located at Decatur House, a historic site near the White House that is operated by the association and owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The center is expected to be in operation by 2013, according to the White House Historical Association.
Rubenstein is a billionaire and co-founder of The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm. He served as a domestic policy adviser to President Jimmy Carter.
