Heavy Delays On I-95/I-395 In Virginia This Morning

Play associated audio

The commute to D.C. from Virginia is a mess this morning due to several incidents along the Interstate-95 corridor, and the Virginia Department of Transportation is urging people to take public transportation or leave after 10 a.m.

Earlier this morning, a concrete patch failed on I-95 at the Prince William Parkway, forcing emergency roadwork to repave the patch. Only one lane of the regular roadway was open in order to make room for the emergency crews. VDOT has lifted HOV restrictions in the area, but traffic is still backed up for several miles in the HOV lane. VDOT says it is unlikely to finish the emergency paving work near Triangle before the end of the morning rush.

Police and fire officials are also cleaning up a car fire near Interstate-395 and Seminary Road, which is causing more HOV and regular lane delays in that area.
