


Dec. 17-Jan. 7: "Up Close & Too Personal"
You might be dreaming of a white Christmas, but why not enjoy some color? Now through January 7 you can head to The Art League Gallery to see some surprisingly lifelike colored pencil drawings by D.C. native Suzanne Vigil. "Up Close & Too Personal" features in-your-face portraits that zoom past the subject's comfort zone, revealing every flaw and stray hair.
Dec. 17-Jan. 20: "Color: Bold & Vibrant"
In "Color: Bold & Vibrant," three local abstract artists present a collection of acrylic and oil paintings in a full spectrum of color. The work is up at ArtSpace Herndon through January 20.
Dec. 17-TBD: Dom Pedro aquamarine
How about more than four-and-a-half pounds of sculpted gemstone, glittering from every angle? The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History recently welcomed its latest addition to the Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals. The Dom Pedro is the world's largest cut aquamarine, standing 14 inches tall and weighing in at 10,363 carats.
