Dec. 4-23: The Santaland Diaries

It hasn't snowed much yet, but if you dash over to RedRum Stage at Fort Fringe, you're sure to be laughing all the way through The Santaland Diaries. Joe Brack stars in this two-man show, based on humorist and author David Sedaris' stint working as Crumpet the elf at a big department store. Directed by Matty Griffiths, this unapologetic performance serves up holiday humor with a healthy dose of schadenfreude. You can check it out through Dec. 23, but leave the young kids at home.

Dec. 6-23: Christmas Cabin of Carnaween

For more yuletide theater that deviates from the traditional, you can head over to Creative Cauldron in Falls Church for Christmas Cabin of Carnaween. This stage adaptation of an Irish folktale is set during the great potato famine and follows the abandoned daughter of an Irish traveler. Growing up, Oona depends on the charity of others, but yearns for a home to call her own. The play is accompanied by live Irish music and runs through Dec. 23.
