(Oct. 17-20) Songs of Migration
The songs and stories of 19th-century migrant workers in Africa come to The Kennedy Center this week. Songs of Migration features indigenous music from across the continent arranged by master South African trumpeter and composer Hugh Masekela. Rich instrumentation, traditional costumes, and dance tie the whole thing together Wednesday through Sunday at the Terrace Theater.
(Oct. 15-Jan. 2) Cold Case
Migration's the name of the game at the National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall too. Arctic Journeys/Ancient Memories is showing through the end of the year. Inuit sculptor Abraham Ruben presents the exhibition that explores parallels between his northern seafaring culture and that of the Vikings.
(Oct. 15-Nov. 10) 40 Years Together in Art
Forty years is a long time to work with one person, especially when that person is your spouse. New York's Su Li Hung and Richard Sloat found some way to make it work. 40 Years Together in Art celebrates their prolific printmaking journey and shared moments of inspiration at the Old Print Gallery in Northwest through early November.
