The folks at Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton are all about contemporary clay sculpture these days, and who can blame them? You can't help but fall in love with the form when 380 sculptors from across the country submit their best work for your annual Ceramics Exhibition. Workhouse employed the services of a ceramics expert to choose the best of the bunch. Sculptures that embody a contemporary spirit as well as technical mastery are showing through late August.

If you like your sculpture shows themed, and you're especially pleased when that theme is "animals," Scope Gallery in Alexandria is going to be your best friend through late August. Functional and decorative depictions of our friends in the animal kingdom are showing in Ode to Animals.

(July 30) Hit the ground running

Two of London's up-and-coming musicians bring their big electronic rock sounds to the Rock & Roll Hotel tonight. The Big Pink promises to pack as many anthemic pop songs into its set as Northeast Washington will allow.
