(July 16-Sept. 2) The wheels in the sky keep recycling

There can be more to recycling than throwing some paper and bottles in a different can. For proof you can head to the corner of Georgia and Ripley in Silver Spring. Local sculptor Howard Connelly's Wheels In The Sky is showing just outside the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. The pinwheeling sculpture made from reclaimed steel, salvaged bicycle parts, and aluminum scraps is showing through the end of the summer.

(July 16-Aug. 6) Butch Cassidy and the District kids

A D.C. summer wouldn't be complete without some cinema classics screening on the National Mall. The annual Screen on the Green series begins today with 1969's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The favorite summer film fest continues through early August with It Happened One Night, From Here to Eternity, and Psycho.

(July 18) Shut Up and Play the Hits

If you prefer to take in your movies and concerts from the comfort of cushy chairs in air-conditioned cinemas, AFI Silver screens Shut Up and Play the Hits Wednesday night. The film documents the four-hour final show of the highly celebrated dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem, and the days of deliberation before the main event.
