(June 4) And the beat goes on...

Some folks go Mozart, others go Monk. Some prefer Billie over Bach. If you love your jazz and your friends love their classical and you never really get to go enjoy music together, The Kennedy Center has a social solution for you tonight. It's called Jazz Meets the Classics. Several classical compositions are performed by an all-star lineup of jazz hands, including master clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera.

(June 4-Sept. 9) A different kind of Cage

Little known fact: Avant-garde composer John Cage was an avid writer and visual artist. A few of his watercolor works are showing not too far from the prints of his close friend Jasper Johns through early September at The Phillips Collection in Northwest. Like much of his music, the paintings were inspired by the ancient Chinese Book of Changes.

(June 4-7) My name is Bill and I'm an alcoholic

Bill Wilson was going to drink himself to death if he didn't make some lifestyle changes back in 1934. The ones he made influenced generations to come and even how society viewed alcoholism. The founder of Alcoholics Anonymous is given the documentary treatment in Bill W., screening at Northwest's Avalon Theatre through Thursday.
