(June 2-Sept. 9) Variations on a Theme

Summer is unofficially here and so are a number of unofficial acknowledgements of the sunny season. The Phillips Collection is taking note with a few major exhibits, including Jasper Johns: Variations on a Theme, opening Saturday. The museum celebrates the modern master's work for the first time with over 100 iconic prints of targets, flags, and numbers. Jazz musicians take over the museum this weekend to add to the ambience.

(June 1-Aug. 31) Jazz in the Garden

You'll hear jazz at the National Gallery of Art all summer long. The annual Jazz in the Garden concert series brings a wide variety of styles to the Sculpture Garden every Friday evening through the end of August.

(June 1) Throw Arena a bone

You'll hear jazz, classical, pop, and just about everything else if you're anywhere near Nationals Park this Friday evening at 6. Arena Stage attempts to set the world record for the largest all-trombone orchestra, because you have to find some way to beat the heat.
