(Jan. 19-28) Art imitating life imitating one-act plays

Georgetown University's Nomadic Theatre troupe presents A Night of One-Act Plays over several nights beginning Thursday at the Davis Performing Arts Center. Three shorts explore the idea that all human interactions involve some level of performance -- be they conversations between lovers or small talk amongst strangers at a benefit concert.

(Jan. 17) Everybody go dark

"Surf rock" may evoke images of huge swells, California sun and endless beaches, but that may not be exactly what you'll get tonight at Artisphere's Dome Theatre in Arlington. Self-proclaimed "dark surf rock" musician Matthew Archer performs and discusses his creative process with a few fellow musicians.

(Jan. 21) Who's the Boss?

For some music that's bound to be a touch brighter, there's Bruce in the U.S.A. Saturday night at State Theatre in Falls Church. The Bruce Springsteen tribute band comprised of superfan Matt Ryan and the American Dream, may be the next best thing to the Boss.
