(Nov. 1-3) We Were Here
The arrival and impact of AIDS in San Francisco is recalled by those who lived through it in the feature length documentary We Were Here, showing until Thursday at Washington’s West End Cinema. The devastation felt by the city in the 1980s is presented next to the triumphant story of the LGBT community’s determination to overcome the disease and its profound stigmas.

(Nov. 1-27) After the Fall
Northwest Washington’s Theater J stages Arthur Miller’s After the Fall through late November. The deeply personal play explores one man’s mission to make peace with himself after a life of controversial political affiliations, failed marriages and great losses.

(Nov. 1) The patron saint of indie rock
And the patron saint of indie rock plays at Northwest Washington’s 9:30 Club tonight. Texan musician Annie Clark takes to the stage as St. Vincent. She brings the serious stage presence, guitar chops and layered arrangements that have won over critics and crossover fans. She wrote her latest album while watching and rescoring films like Badlands and The Wizard of Oz, so expect some cinematic pop.
