(Oct. 28-Jan. 15) Western women, eastern art
The National Museum of Women in the Arts focuses on artists who focused on Asian cultures in Visions of the Orient. The exhibition features the output of four early-20th century painters who also designed woodblock prints. The Visions question Western assumptions about Eastern culture tomorrow through mid-January in Northwest Washington.

(Oct. 28-29) The Naval Academy does Arabian Nights
The United States Naval Academy’s Masqueraders are looking east as well. The theater group performs Mary Zimmerman’s The Arabian Nights this weekend and the next in Annapolis. The acclaimed take on the classic Middle Eastern folk tales ends up being a testimonial to the transformative power of storytelling. 

(Oct. 30) Rhapsody in Song all night long
For some Western sounds the New Dominion Chorale presents Rhapsody in Song: From Brahms to Gershwin Sunday afternoon. 220 voices and a piano take on Rhapsody in Blue, Gypsy Songs, and Cole Porter at the Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria.
