Once a year - long after the sun has set and the genial puppets have all gone to sleep -- the Puppet Company at Glen Echo Park hosts its Playhouse Puppetry Slam!. Local performers and puppeteers from New York City bring edgy and provocative works to the Park Saturday night.

George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts presents Barefoot in the Park all weekend. Neil Simon’s classic romantic comedy tells the story of a couple of newlyweds who move into a tiny Greenwich Village apartment to confront the realities of married life.

For some art that’s hotter than hot there’s Fired @ 2200 Degrees opening Saturday at Gallery 555dc in Northwest Washington. Eight of the region’s crack ceramic artists showcase artworks and practical creations.

Electronic music composer James Blake plays a set of soulful songs Sunday night at the 9:30 Club in Northwest.  The critical darling combines the stark, glitchy drums of dubstep with manipulated vocals full of heartbreak and hope.
