'Shut Up Little Man!' screens at Washington's West End Cinema this week.

(Sept. 26-Oct. 30) Parade at Ford's

The Tony Award-winning musical drama Parade is staged at Ford's Theatre through the end of October. The production is based on the true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish factory manager accused of murder in Atlanta in the early part of the last century. Justice plays a second fiddle to bigotry in the call for tolerance in American society.

(Sept. 26-29) Shut Up Little Man!

Shut Up Little Man! is a pretty unorthodox call for tolerance. Two young punks from the Midwest moved to a San Francisco flat in 1987. They soon realized they were living next to a flamboyant gay man and a raging homophobe - both habitual drinkers. The odd couple got into some pretty epic arguments with each other and the Midwesterners taped them. The recordings were a hit - inspiring sell-out CDs, comic book adaptations, stage-plays and now a feature documentary showing at Washington's West End Cinema.

(Sept. 27) Sustainable Folk

New England native Bill Staines has been taking his show on the road for five decades. Tomorrow he brings traditional folk fare to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville. Staines is known for his guitar playing and smooth baritone, but he's a champion yodeler so anything can happen.
