O'Malley To Lead Trade Mission To El Salvador And Brazil

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced he and state business leaders will lead a trade mission next week to Brazil and El Salvador.

O'Malley will be joined by several state business leaders including representatives from Lockheed Martin, and some elected officials such as Prince George's County executive Rushern Baker on the trip.

A release from the governor's office says the mission will focus on strengthening economic ties to two countries that already have roots in the state. Maryland has one of its 11 foreign trade offices in Brazil, and the Port of Baltimore imports more cargo tonnage from the country than any other in the world.

As for El Salvador, the 2010 Census showed the just over two percent of Maryland's entire population identifies as Salvadoran, the highest percentage of any state in the U.S.
