Democrat Terry McAuliffe narrowly defeated his Republican opponent to become the next governor of Virginia. Once all votes were counted, McAuliffe led Cuccinelli by 2.5 percentage points in an unofficial tally. Meanwhile, the Democrats won the lieutenant governor's race, but neither candidate has conded in the attorney general's election.
