Two D.C. Schools Receive Blue Ribbon Awards

A charter school and a Catholic school in D.C. have received 2013 Blue Ribbon awards. The program recognizes schools where students perform at very high levels or those that have made significant improvement academically.

D.C. Prep’s Edgewood Elementary Campus and St. Peter School in the District are among 286 in the country that received the U.S. Department of Education “Blue Ribbon School” award this year. (The full list is here.)

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan called the schools chosen “truly remarkable" and said that other schools could learn from them. "Please share what you know and have learned with others," he said. "You will serve as models in your communities and states and frankly across the country."

In Maryland, 11 schools received the award, including Chadwick Elementary School, Robert Frost Middle School and St. John the Evangelist School. In Virginia, 10 schools were named Blue Ribbon schools, including Westbriar Elementary School, St. Veronica Catholic School and Garrisonville Elementary School.
