D.C. Campaign Officials Investigating Evans' Constituent Services Fund

District of Columbia campaign finance officials are looking into whether D.C. Council member and mayoral candidate Jack Evans received improper contributions to his constituent service fund.

According to The Washington Post, the campaign finance office's general counsel said Wednesday that the agency has opened a preliminary investigation. William Sanford says the inquiry involves "contributions from three entities'' that may have the same owner.

City law bars a parent company or subsidiaries from giving more than $500 to a constituent service fund. Evans says he hasn't been contacted by the campaign finance office and describes the inquiry as "routine.''

The city's ethics board is also looking into an allegation that Evans pushed to close an alley on the campus of George Washington University because he needed support for his mayoral bid.
