D.C. Legislator Raises Money For Mayoral Run At Nantucket Fundraiser

D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans raised about $40,000 for his mayoral campaign at a Nantucket, Mass., gathering earlier this month.

The Washington Post reports that former Mayor Anthony Williams was among those in attendance at the Aug. 9 fundraiser. Evans said he appreciated Williams' remarks praising his work on the council, noting that Williams remains very popular.

Democratic fundraiser and lawyer Max Berry hosted the event. He said he invited Washingtonians who were already vacationing on the island and that Williams, who says he remains neutral in the mayoral race, introduced Evans as a longtime friend and praised his work on financial issues.

Fellow Council members Tommy Wells and Muriel Bowser are among the other candidates expected to run. Mayor Vincent Gray has not said whether he'll run again.
