John Hopkins is ramping up their fundraising efforts to reach $4.5 billion by the end of 2017.

Officials at Johns Hopkins say they are working on its largest-ever fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $4.5 billion by the end of 2017.

The university and health system says the money will be used to create as many as 300 endowed professorships and generate nearly $700 million for undergraduate financial aid and graduate student fellowships.

Officials say they have been quietly raising money since January 2010 and have raised $1.94 billion from more than 150,000 donors. Part of the money raised is a $350 million gift from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that was announced in January, the largest gift in Johns Hopkins' history. Bloomberg is a 1964 graduate of the school.

Now that the campaign has been publically announced, the goal is to complete the effort in 2017.
