Maryland's gubernatorial field for 2014 is expected to be a crowded one, as current governor Martin O'Malley turns his attention to a possible presidential bid.

Maryland Republican Delegate Ron George says he plans to run for governor.

George says he'll formally announce his bid on June 5 in Annapolis. He's currently serving his second term in the Maryland House of Delegates. He began his first term in 2007.

The 59-year-old small-business owner, says he wants to build a better Maryland with true economic growth. The jewelry store owner says Maryland relies too much on federal money. He says the state needs to increase its tax base, and that Maryland can't just continue raising taxes.

George says he wants to emphasize economic development in the state, particularly in Baltimore. He also says he wants to focus on being economically competitive with neighboring Virginia.

Current Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is term limited and thus unable to run for re-election in 2014.
