Maryland Del. Ron Orange is planning to announce his run governor in Annapolis early June.

Maryland Republican Del. Ron George says he plans to run for governor. George says he'll formally announce his bid on June 5 in Annapolis.

George is currently serving his second term in the Maryland House of Delegates.

The 59-year-old small-business owner began his first term in 2007, and says he wants to build a better Maryland with true economic growth, according to the Associated Press. The jewelry storeowner says Maryland relies too much on federal money. He says the state needs to increase its tax base, and that Maryland can't just continue raising taxes.

George says he wants to emphasize economic development in the state, particularly in Baltimore. He also says he wants to focus on being economically competitive with neighboring Virginia.
