A pedestrian was taken away in a neck brace after being struck by a cyclist.

A collision between a pedestrian and a cyclist this morning at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 12 Street sent at least one to the hospital.

Witnesses saw the pedestrian crossing Pennsylvania Avenue, which was closed today due to Emancipation Day, when she was struck.

"I was sitting there and heard her call out, I looked up, and she just ran right through the pedestrian," says Dave Patten, who witnessed it. "I didn't hear her trying to brake. I didn't see her try to swerve. She just essentially expected the pedestrian would get out of the way."

Patten says the pedestrian hit her head fairly hard. The pedestrian was taken away by emergency personnel in a neck brace.

The condition of the cyclist is unknown.
