Metro is adding service to one of its busiest corridors, the A-line, which carries 14,000 riders every weekday. The A9 MetroExtra service along Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE will operate from Livingston to McPherson Square during rush hours.

The effort, which launched on March 24, is part of Metro's $5 million Better Bus initiative designed to reduce crowding on the transit authority's busiest bus lines. Better Bus involves changes to a total of 11 bus corridors that carry about 150,000 riders, about a third of Metro's bus customers.

The changes include new Saturday service on Georgia Avenue and additional service on the U Street Garfield Route.
