Virginia law enforcement officials are wrapping up the investigation into a shooting that resulted in the death of a young man in Sterling over the weekend.

It appears that after a night of drinking, 16-year-old Park View High School student Caleb A. Gordley was dropped off near his home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday by friends. He somehow went to the wrong house, apparently entering through a rear window.

At some point the young man and the homeowner confronted each other, and that's when the fatal shooting took place. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office characterized the shooting as a homeowner killing an unknown intruder.

The teen and the homeowner live one house apart, but may not have known each other. Both homes are nearly identical in appearance.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case. The name of the homeowner has not been released.
