Injured Alexandria Officer Sees Miracle Recovery

Doctors are calling it a miracle. After Alexandria police officer Peter LaBoy was shot in the head during a traffic stop, more than 100 doctors stabilized him at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Janis Orlowski says Laboy's chances of surviving his injuries were one in one million. During a press conference today, Police Chief Earl Cook thanked the community for its support.

The Alexandria Police Department and friends of the family are holding fundraisers and a blood drive. The drive takes place Thursday, March 21, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the department's community room, 3600 Wheeler Ave. in Alexandria.

Interested donors are asked to schedule an appointment first with Inova Blood Donor Services by visiting inova.org/donate blood. Use the sponsor code "7980." Or call 1-866-256-6372.

On April 21, the Capital Area Law Enforcement Foundation is organizing a golfing fundraiser for Laboy. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at TopGolf, 6625 S. Van Dorn Street in Alexandria. The entry fee is a minimum $25 donation, which includes food and two drink tickets. A silent auction will also be held during the golf event.

Donations are being accepted by the Alexandria Police Association on behalf of the Laboy family. Anyone wishing to help the Laboy family can drop off a donation at the Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Avenue or send a donation to:
