Alexandria Police Officer Allegedly Shot By Cab Driver

A police officer suffered serious injuries after reportly being shot during a traffic stop in Old Town Alexandria this morning.

The officer, who was riding his police motorcycle, was involved in a traffic stop on Wilkes Street near Washington Street in Old Town about 11:45 a.m., according to NBC Washington. The officer was shot in the upper body after getting off the motorcycle.

Investigators say a cab driver shot the officer then led police on a chase into Fairfax County. Eventually the cab driver crashed in the Ft. Hunt area and was taken into custody. 

The injured officer has been airlifted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
