A change in GOP leadership in the Maryland General Assembly may be on the horizon, as House Republicans have set a meeting for late April to decide their direction for the future.

House Republicans have felt outnumbered by their Democratic colleagues in Annapolis for years, but there is reportedly a bit of infighting within the Republican ranks due to the recent passage of bills that disagree with their party platform, such as same sex marriage, and the DREAM Act.

And this session, with proposed legislation on offshore wind, death penalty repeal and assault weapons restrictions, the GOP is allegedly considering a big shake up in its leadership structure.

After a closed door executive session in Annapolis, GOP leaders set a meeting for late April that likely will decide whether or not to unseat current Minority Whip Jeannie Haddaway Riccio, who represents Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot and Wicomico counties in District 37B on the Eastern Shore.

The 35-year-old Riccio was the youngest person ever elected in the House of Delegates in 2006, but she was first appointed in 2003 at the age of just 26 by then-Governor Bob Ehrlich as a replacement for former delegate Kenneth Schisler.
