Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is highlighting some initiatives he hopes will spur job growth in the state, reports the Associated Press.

Part of O'Malley's plan includes training people for jobs that are in high demand. He's put $2.5 million in his budget proposal to create a competitive grant process to do so.

It's called, "The Employment Advancement Now Initiative," and it would encourage regional training collaborations among businesses, nonprofits, colleges and local governments.

O'Malley is also backing a measure to speed up the professional licensing process for military families who move to Maryland from other states. That means veterans would get credit for their military training and previous educational experience when they pursue an occupational or professional license.
