Metro riders should consider themselves lucky if they can just avoid shuttles this weekend.

Scheduled maintenance will have some Metrorail passengers taking buses this weekend on parts of the Blue and Orange Lines.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, free shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between Federal Center SW and Cheverly. Six stations will be closed: Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Avenue, Stadium Armory, Minnesota Avenue and Deanwood. An express bus bypassing the closed stations will add 20 minutes to the expected travel time through that area, while a local shuttle that does stop at the closed stations will take up to an hour longer than usual.

On the Blue Line, buses will also replace trains starting at Federal Center SW and continuing through the Benning Road station. Metro says the shuttle bus through that work zone should add 45 minutes to the trip.

On the Red Line, trains will be sharing a single track all weekend between Farragut North and Judiciary Square as well as on the Orange Line between East Falls Church and West Falls Church.
