Northern Virginia Has Lowest Jobless Rate In Commonwealth

New unemployment statistics show the Virginia's northern suburbs are doing much better than the rest of the state.

The Virginia Employment Commission says the Washington metropolitan region, which includes Arlington and Alexandria, has the lowest jobless rate in the state, at just 4.1 percent. Arlington County has Virginia's lowest jobless rate with 3.3 percent, followed by 3.7 percent in Fairfax County.

Contrast that to the Danville region in Southside Virginia, which has the highest unemployment rate among Virginia's metropolitan regions at 7.6 percent.

The city of Martinsville — also in Southside Virginia — remained the highest in Virginia with a seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate of 15.2 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 5.4 percent.
